hi! i’m higu rose

i'm a self-taught cartoonist, illustrator, quilter, and teaching artist based out of pittsburgh, PA. i've self-published over 10 autobio and fiction graphic novels; i’ve been quilting since 2019, and with every quilt i learn something new >:) i’m a 2022 recipient of the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant, as well as a featured artist in a several local residencies. Carta Monir called my autobiographical graphic novel TITTYCHOP BOOBSLASH "the best trans comic" of 2017!!!!!!!!!

you can find my portfolio and street credz at https://higu.cargo.site/!
a lot of my work focuses around memoir and my experiences as a queer black person. the rest of what i draw is often based in the universe of my comic series, YINZ CITY, which you can check out at the website yinz.city (no WWW.)

i like working with rich colors and and creating ink illustrations that feature intricate linework. i’m currently experimenting with ways to merge my illustration and quilting practices via silkscreening and digital fabric printing.
i'm inspired by boys love (BL) manga, eastern orthodox art composition, as well as artists such as Mark Rothko and some other people whose names i can't remember right now. one time i made former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel wait five minutes for a 8oz cup of coffee.

i’m at most an armchair anarchist and a fair-weather quaker, and i am absolutely shit as actually talking about those things, so don’t be surprised if i never ever ever ever ever talk about that shit directly in this newsletter.

hope 2 see u soon <3
